Introduction

In 2004, during a star-studded Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, one moment stole the show and etched itself into music history. It was a tribute performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”—featuring Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison, and most notably, Prince. The performance was powerful, but Prince’s guitar solo took it to another level.

That year, music legends like Jackson Browne, ZZ Top, and Prince himself were being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Among all the tributes and honors, it was Prince’s emotionally-charged and masterfully executed solo that left the audience in awe. Even years later, guitarists and fans around the world revisit the video to marvel at his skill, passion, and sheer stage presence.

Prince wasn’t only known for that legendary solo. His impact on music was vast, and one of his most iconic creations was the song “Purple Rain.” Performed alongside his band The Revolution, the song served as the centerpiece of the 1984 film of the same name, where Prince also took on the lead role. The track, which was third on the soundtrack album, blended rock, R&B, and raw emotion—becoming a timeless anthem for generations.

Although “Purple Rain” reached only No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (held off the top spot by Wham’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”), it reached No. 1 in Belgium and the Netherlands. The song resonated deeply with fans and is often celebrated as one of Prince’s defining masterpieces. Interestingly, in France, it initially peaked at No. 12, but after Prince’s passing, it surged back to No. 1, a testament to its enduring emotional power.

From a legend to a rising star—Miguel Montalban is a gifted guitarist, composer, and songwriter originally from Santiago, Chile. Over the years, he’s gained international recognition for his soulful and technically brilliant guitar performances.

Miguel has built a loyal following on YouTube, where his channel has attracted over 60,000 subscribers and millions of views. One of his most viral performances is a street rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”—a powerful tribute that showcases his control, feel, and deep connection to the music. Watching him play live on the streets, it’s clear why many consider him one of the finest young guitarists today.

In 2015, Miguel released two albums—Inspirations Vol. 1 and Vol. 2—both of which were well received, with more than 20,000 copies sold within the first few years. He also serves as a representative of London’s International Busking Day, further solidifying his presence in the global music scene.

Even established artists have taken notice. Guitar legend Mark Knopfler once praised him, saying, “This guy is totally excellent… he has that ‘Sultan’s ear’ and uses his talent to be an even better Dire Solder.” High praise from one of the greats.

Whether it’s Prince’s unforgettable solos on the world’s biggest stages or Miguel’s heartfelt performances on city streets, the magic of the guitar lives on—deep, moving, and endlessly inspiring.
